Diversity Programs Office Update

Submitted by Zelia Wiley

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanks to Dr. Gregg Hadley, Associate Director-KSRE for giving remarks at the KSTATE MANRRS annual "Friendsgiving" dinner. We appreciate him taking the time to share his Extension experiences, the importance of the job opportunities and we look forward to him visiting us again in the spring 2018 semester.

The DPO wishes to thank all who participated in the KSUnite rally and sessions last week. It was a very productive day. To continue the momentum of this rally, I would like to invite you to our student led Diversity Forum on Tuesday, November 28, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. We will have a student, faculty/staff and corporate member panel. The goal is to put diversity into action. We will have pizza and drinks to enhance this dialogue. We want to keep all engaged. There have been several hate crimes that have caused our College of AG students to want to discuss in a public venue. This student led event promises to be impactful, but will only be great with YOUR participation. It is an opportunity for us to stand together as faculty, staff and students to promote unity and oppose hate!

Our student leaders are eager for this dialogue on diversity. The student leadership includes: Ag Student Council President, Lane Nichols; Ag Senators – Carlos Flores, Lacy Pitts, Jansen Penny, Nils Bergsten, Aaron Hendrickson, Emily Zwick, Sarah Niederee; some Ag Ambassadors - Will Morland, Tara Cook, Aubrey Davis; and Makinsey McIntosh, MANRRS President. The forum is called “Growing our Mindset: Why Diversity Matters in the Agriculture.” Please join us as we support this most important event!

Best wishes to all for a safe Thanksgiving break! If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dr. Zelia Wiley at zwiley@ksu.edu, or 785-532-5793.
