EIN Documentation for 4-H Clubs

Submitted by Jim Lindquist and Wade Weber

Banks are now required to have an official letter or form on file from the IRS with the 4-H club’s EIN. 4-H Clubs may reach out to the Extension office upon being contacted by a bank for the appropriate documentation if they find it is missing from their files.

Clubs or the Extension office may have the original EIN form sent by the IRS on file, but if not, to obtain a documentation letter from the IRS, one can call the IRS Business and Tax line at 800-829-4933. A 4-H agent recently called the line on behalf of a club and after being on hold for about 10 minutes was able to speak to a representative and received a faxed copy of the letter, the whole process taking about 15 minutes.
