FARMER AND RANCHER RESOURCES GUIDE TO BE RELEASED
Copies of the Kansas Family Farmer and Rancher Resources and Services Guide were mailed to county and area offices during the last two weeks. A press release is planned for the week of March 11. The articles and radio spots will refer producers to the county offices for a copy or further information. We anticipate a large response to this publication.

In order to allow adequate time for copies of the publication to be ordered into county offices, each county may order up to 10 copies beginning today. The publication is free; however, the county will pay the postage. The publication is also available on the oznet library at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/library/agec2/mf2544.pdf .

Contact is Jana Beckman, jabeckma@oznet.ksu.edu , KCSAAC coordinator, 785-532-1440. --Jana Beckman

COMMUNICATION AND STYLE GUIDE
By now, you should have received a copy of the Communication and Style Guide. (This will replace the ID Guide from 2000.) In the Communication and Style Guide, you will find guidelines for logo usage, letters, stationery formats, terminology and titles, publications, Web pages, marketing, specialty items and much more. It also lists resources within the Department of Communication and guidelines for making Web pages accessibility compliant. We encourage you to store this guide with the K-State Research and Extension directory and refer to it when communication questions arise.

If you have not yet received your copy of the Communications and Style Guide, please contact Linda Sleichter at lsleicht@oznet.ksu.edu . An electronic version of the guide will be available on the marketing Website at http://intranet.oznet.ksu.edu/marketing . --Linda Sleichter

NEW 4-H DOG SHOW RULES
Effective January 1, 2002, the Kansas 4-H Dog Care and Training Action Team approved the following disqualifications where NO RIBBON would be given for all classes in Showmanship, Obedience and Agility:

1. Dogs/handlers dismissed from the ring BY JUDGE due to:

* Dog leaving ring or out of control
* Dog being overly aggressive
* Handler using abusive language or unsportsmanlike conduct

2. Baiting dog - Automatic Disqualification

The Dog Care and Training Action Team recognizes that many counties were already doing this and chose to maintain the high standards of the project by implementing these ideals at the state level. Please share this information with your leaders, members and judges by having them insert it in their current Rule Books until the next printing is available. --Jim Adams jadams@oznet.ksu.edu

4-H FAIR JUDGES TRAINING
The Seven-County FACS Teaching Block in the northeast area (Washington, Wabaunsee, Pottawatomie, Riley, Marshall, Geary & Clay) are hosting three opportunities for individuals interested in judging at fairs to hone their skills. Judging Clinics will be held April 11 at Wamego Middle School, April 16 at Junction City Immanuel Lutheran Church/School, and April 22 at Marysville Good Shepherd's Lutheran School. All clinics will run from 6:30-9:00 p.m. with a light meal included. Registration, including a $5 fee, is due to the Marshall county office one week prior to each clinic. Woodworking, Foods, Arts & Crafts, and Photography will be offered at each clinic.

Anyone with a hobby, interest, or expertise in any of the four project areas is encouraged to attend. Questions may be addressed to Glenda Keller, Matt Pfiefer, Julene Sylvester, Sharolyn Flaming Jackson, Susie Latta, or Donna Martinson. --Donna Martinson dmartins@oznet.ksu.edu

KANSAS JR ANGUS ASSOCIATION TO HOST MULTI-STATE SHOW
Some agents have made inquiries about the 2002 Sunflower Showdown Central Regional Preview Jr Angus Show that Kansas will be hosting. It sounds like it will be a tremendous opportunity for your beef members who show Angus, or who just want to observe a large multi-state show such as this.

DATE: June 14-16, 2002
PLACE: Kansas State Fairgrounds, Hutchinson, KS
OWNERSHIP Deadline for cattle: May 1, 2002
Entry Deadline: May 15, 2002

Entry information will be mailed to all Junior members of the American Angus Association this spring, who will handle all the entries. Judge is Dr Randy Daniels, Colbert, GA. Showmanship judges are Kevin and Sheila Jensen, Courtland, KS
