EXTENSION MINI GRANTS
K-State Research and Extension has approximately $3,000 for Mini Grants made available through USDA/SARE Professional Development Program funds. The purpose of the mini grant program is to promote county level, grass roots efforts to improve the viability of the Kansas family farmer and the Kansas communities in which they live. Appropriate outputs include projects that seek to implement community activities, production practices, financial planning or stewardship activities that improve the viability of the Kansas family farmer and the Kansas community.

To these outputs, county extension agents are invited to submit proposals in support of educational programs, events, activities, demonstrations, and other innovative educational projects. Competitive grants of up to $500 are available. Project proposals including a budget are due August 31, 2002. OFFICE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH WEBSITES AVAILABLE
The Office of Community Health (OCH) has two new websites available — Healthy Places and RE-AIM. The first, http://healthyplaces.ksu.edu , includes public pages that describe OCH’s staff members and their research, services, and products. The site’s Healthy Places Online area allows leaders to create online communities around issues related to physical activity, positive social skills, and nutrition.

Take a “Place Tour” to see what Healthy Places Online has to offer. The tour will show you tools that are available at Healthy Places Online: resources (text, multimedia, and image files), chat room, message board, contribute file, and calendar. If you create an account and log in, you can search for places that match your interests. If you’ve used K-State Online, you’ll find it familiar and easy-to-use. And, if you get stuck, K-State Online’s Help Desk provides technical support for users.

The RE-AIM site, http://www.re-aim.org , is intended to help health behavior researchers facilitate translating their research findings into practice. For more information, contact Elizabeth Brock at 532-1905 or ebrock@oznet.ksu.edu . --Elizabeth Brock

PUBLICATIONS/PRODUCTION SERVICES UPDATE
Fiscal Year Ending

Please note the following changes related to the end of the State of Kansas Fiscal Year 2002:

* June 24 - Final day to enter orders in the Distribution Center and quotes in Duplicating. Orders received after June 24 will be processed July 1.

* June 25 through June 27 - Orders to be processed, invoiced and shipped.

* June 28 - Order/Inventory system will be closed, balanced and updated for FY03.

* July 1 - FY03 begins. Tax rate changes to 7.3 percent for taxable sales. New U.S. Postal Service shipping charges apply.

FACS Annual Series Orders
A new BRIGHT ORANGE order form has been distributed for FACS Annual Series orders, and the deadline has been extended to July 15. Please use the revised form, which contains updated information, rather than the hot pink form sent earlier. If your office has already returned the pink form, you may send changes or confirm the order via e-mail at: orderpub@lists.oznet.ksu.edu . We apologize for the confusion caused by two similar order forms, but wanted to offer updated information before orders are finalized.

September and 4th Quarter Order Forms Due
Orders for publications scheduled to be distributed in September and in the 4th Quarter are due July 1. As we all look to tightened budgets, consider returning only the pages containing publication orders to avoid additional postage charges. Please avoid faxing quarterly orders unless it's an emergency. The fax charge will almost certainly be more than the postage charge. In addition, the Distribution Center fax machine memory is limited, and may not process your entire order. If you must fax the order, please indicate the office name on each page, as well as the number of pages sent. For example, Scenic County - 1 of 3; Scenic County - 2 of 3 ...

Penalty Meter Update
The Distribution Center's penalty mail meter is back in service. Due to U.S. Postal Service requirements, we will update the meter to accommodate newer technology within the next few weeks and may experience another temporary loss of services. We do not anticipate the loss of service to last more than one workday.

Limited Services Available July 5
The Distribution Center will be open only for package pickup and delivery on July 5. No mail service will be available. Packet mail will be sent Wednesday, July 3. Orders may be placed via e-mail at: orderpub@lists.oznet.ksu.edu . The Duplicating Center and Publications Unit will remain open Monday through Friday throughout the period, and complete service in Distribution will be available Monday, July 8. --Nancy Peavler npeavler@oznet.ksu.edu

DEADLINE EXTENDED

We apologize if you did not receive the original letter, and would like to have everyone participate.
